Chief Executive Officer, Legacy Health System
Dr. Brown joined Legacy Health System in September 2008. Legacy is a diversified healthcare delivery system inclusive of six hospitals, 14 primary care clinics, 16 specialty care clinics, 2,700 physicians and over 8,000 employees serving the greater Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington state areas. Legacy Health System is also a joint venture partner in Managed HealthCare Northwest, a major regional PPO.
Prior to joining Legacy, Dr. Brown served as the Chief Operating Officer of MultiCare Health System, in Tacoma, Washington. Previous leadership experience includes Commanding General, Madigan Army Medical Center, Lead Agent Region 11 and Commander, United States Army Western Regional Medical Command, Fort Lewis, Washington and Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington D.C., Blanchfield Army Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Letterman Army Institute of Medical Research, Presidio of San Francisco, California and U.S. Army Hospital Berlin, West Germany. He retired from active duty service in February, 1999 as a Brigadier General in the Regular Army.
Dr. Brown received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and the American Board of Medical Management. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American College of Physician Executives, American College of Physicians, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Brown is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Oregon Society of Health Care Executives and serves on the Boards of Oregon Society of Healthcare Executives, Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest and Oregon Business Council. In 2009, Governor Kulongoski appointed Dr. Brown to serve on the Oregon Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission; he cochairs the Accountability Subcommittee. Additionally, he is involved with healthcare leadership groups and the State of Oregon who are working together on expanding healthcare services to a greater population in Oregon. Dr. Brown serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Health Related Professions.
