Virginia Hensen brings unmatched youth development and nonprofit experience to the BBBS-MP board. Most recently,
she served as executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, Portland's largest youth development
agency, which provides after-school and summer programs for more than 10,000 young people ages 6-18. During her five years
with the organization, Hensen was responsible for all operations and for fund development. Under her leadership, the
organization grew from four clubs with a budget of $1.3 million to its present eight club units with an operating budget of
$2.8 million.
Hensen worked for nearly 20 years with Nike, where she served as director of public affairs and in-house legal counsel, as
well as executive director of the Nike P.L.A.Y. Foundation, responsible for directing cash and in-kind corporate
contributions of approximately $10 million annually to nonprofit agencies worldwide. She also established and directed the
company's community relations program, minority and urban affairs program, employee matching gift fund, and "JUST DO IT"
volunteer network.
Hensen has served on numerous boards of directors, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland, Raphael House of Portland,
Portland House of Umoja, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Gifts In Kind America, and the National Center for Gang Policy. She served as
Nike's representative to the Oregon Business Council, on the Council on Foundations Corporate Planning Committee, on the
Boys & Girls Clubs of America Marketing Committee, and on the Steering Committee of the Oregon Grantmakers Association.
