So many ways to get started
The Second Chance Program aims to break the cycle of harmful behaviors by supporting youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who are currently involved in the juvenile justice system. A Second Chance volunteer meets with their youth and provides a meaningful friendship that aids the youth in becoming successful and healthy members of their community.
Changing the Course of a Child’s Life
By providing consistent encouragement and support, you have the opportunity to create an important and positive impact on a youth’s life. When youth are involved in the juvenile justice system, they oftentimes stand at a crossroad. Youth battle with their environmental factors, truancy, substance abuse issues and reverting back to anti-social behaviors. These youth need a friend and positive role model to help them develop pro-social behaviors and provide guidance while the youth is transitioning back into the community, finishing their education and envisioning their goals for the future as a productive, crime free, young adult.
"Having a Big Sister gives me hope that I can actually make something of myself, and she has always been there for me when no one else was around. My Big Sister is funny, makes me laugh, and we always have fun, even when doing something simple like dinner or taking a walk." – Little Sister Sara, 17
“I’m so proud of Sara and how she's overcome some pretty hard knocks in life. Sara is a very intelligent and kind young woman. The more I get to know her, the more impressed I am by her. She's wise beyond her years. I plan to have a lifelong friendship with Sara and can't wait to see how her future unfolds. Thank you BBBS's for giving me this opportunity!” – Big Sister Diane
Gain a Friend, Change a Life
