Latinos Helping Latinos

With Latinos, the Big Brother or Sister becomes part of the fabric of the family. With 250 Latino children currently on the Big Brothers Big Sisters wait-list, now is the time to become a mentor and extend your familia to include a Latino child looking for another caring adult in his life. And the best part is, being a Big Brother, Sister or Couple is actually a lot of fun.

Latino Mentoring Council

The Latino Mentoring Council consists of community members dedicated to providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. To reach this goal, the Council works to encourage, engage and sustain greater numbers of Latino children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and recruit volunteers and families to join in.

When the Mentoring Council was first formed, the agency had only 36 Latino Big Brothers and Sisters matched with Latino Little Brothers and Sisters. By 2007, this number has grown to 503 Latino matches. A large portion of this success is attributed to the Council, which is comprised of members from the local Latino community and its supporters, industries and sectors.

Help us ensure our programmatic approaches are culturally relevant, strategic and sustainable for the future, and become an advisor to help with the following:

  • Review programmatic approaches for cultural competency
  • Develop strategies to increase the number of Latino children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Assist with fund development and partnerships to lead to program sustainability
  • Develop effective strategies to recruit additional Latino Big Brothers, Sisters or Couples
  • Serve as a Big Brothers Big Sisters ambassador to the Latino community

Additionally you can contribute to the program by helping to create a partnership with a Latino organization or business.
